New Delhi: Karwa Chauth has largely been associated with women fasting for their husbands’ long lives. But in the current shift, the festival is also taking on a different meaning for some couples, with husbands choosing to fast alongside their wives.

The practice is entirely new, and it has become more visible through social media and stories of couples celebrating the festival together. India’s official tourism website also acknowledges that some husbands now observe the fast, praying for their wives’ health and long life.
