Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, 2 others acquitted in extortion case, court cites lack of evidence

The court acquitted gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and 2 others in an extortion case, filed by Delhi Police. The court said that there was lack of evidence against the accused. A lawyer had filed a complaint saying that he received an extortion call, demanding Rs 1 crore in April 2023. The court however, said that the police failed to prove role of Bishnoi and others in the matter.

New Delhi: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who is currently in a jail in Gujarat, has got relief from a Delhi court. The court has acquitted Bishnoi and 2 others in an extortion case, citing lack of evidence. The order was passed by a Saket court.

No actual extortion took place: Court

According to reports, Bishnoi and 2 others have been acquitted by a Saket court in a case related to extortion from a lawyer. The gangsters had reportedly demanded Rs 1 crore from a lawyer, but now this case has fallen flat due to lack of evidence. The court said that there was no evidence against the accused except for their own statements.

The matter in which Lawrence and his 2 accomplices have been acquitted, started after the Delhi Police registered an FIR in April 2023. The matter related to firing and an extortion call made to the lawyer. Following the completion of the investigation, the police had filed a chargesheet against Bishnoi, Haren Sarpadia and Ashish Sharma.
