Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma — political legacy, prominent Jat face, RSS roots, possible Delhi CM?
New Delhi: According to Dr Orison Swett Marden, an American inspirational author, “Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.” Purely by this logic, the politician who stands out by a mile today (February 8) is Parvesh Singh Verma. The gritty 48-year-old ‘Dilli ka Ladka’, a veteran politician with an enviable legacy, has managed to stump (and also defeat) former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal from a constituency that was considered a bastion for the AAP supremo (at least for the last three terms). That too by a decent margin of 3,812 votes.
For those who have been following Indian politics, Verma (a prominent Jat face), by no stretch of imagination can be called an underdog in Delhi. This is his home turf, and Verma carries the patrimony of his father Saheb Singh Verma, a tall leader in his own might. Parvesh Verma is himself a two time former MP from New Delhi, has been a shakha pramukh for the RSS in Keshavpuram, and has stood up to the task and delivered for the party whenever he has been called upon.
