Singapore PM Wong condemns racism against Indians: Nepal floods, Air India investments reasons

The comments came after Singapore authorities began investigating racist and xenophobic posts linked to two separate issues, namely the deaths and disappearances of Singaporeans in the Nepal floods and criticism of Singapore Airlines’ financial exposure to Air India.

New Delhi: Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has condemned a wave of racist and anti-Indian comments posted online in connection with the Nepal floods and Singapore Airlines’ investment in Air India, warning that such prejudice could damage Singapore’s social cohesion.

Wong said Singapore must not allow racial prejudice against any community to become accepted or normalised. He also cautioned against dismissing such remarks as harmless online comments, saying they could eventually “pull us apart”.
