AI helps scientists match fresh impact craters with quakes on Mars
New Delhi: Scientists have used AI to match signals of Marsquakes detected by the InSight lander, with images of fresh impact craters captured by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). The InSight lander recorded seismic activity between 2018 and 2022, when it could not generate any more power because of dust caking its solar panels. An AI algorithm was initially used to find fresh impact craters during this time period, resulting in a catalogue of 123 events when InSight was detecting quakes. 49 seismic events in the InSight data was then matched with the impact craters.
