Dems’ shutdown idiocy: Letters to the Editor — March 19, 2026
The Issue: Homeland Security Dept. partly shut down amid multiple terrorist attacks and major airport delays.
During a period of elevated global threats, Democrats have allowed a partial government shutdown that weakens the very agency responsible for safeguarding the homeland (“Democrats for Terror?”, Editorial, March 17).
While dedicated Homeland Security personnel still report for duty, they have to operate amid funding uncertainty and political dysfunction.
Thanks to Senate leadership (particularly Sen. “Chuckles” Schumer) and the radical left, the agency created to prevent another 9/11 is now forced to fight modern terrorist threats with fewer resources and diminished authority.
National security should never be used as a bargaining chip in partisan politics.

I have the absolute 100% foolproof solution to those out-of-control TSA security lines.
Have all those big-wheel senators, congressmen and other top government officials who flash their credentials and bypass security wait in line like the rest of us peons.
The partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is incredibly devastating to this country.
To deny paychecks to anyone involved in the shutdown is denying these people the ability to take care of themselves and their families.
Worst of all is that the Democrats in Congress have the audacity to still get paid.
If they shut down the DHS, they shouldn’t get paid either.
During the 2025 government shutdown, the huge problems created by air traffic controllers calling in sick were what caused Democratic legislators to finally give in.
This current government shutdown will soon be over since the delays caused by air traffic controller absences are now being reported by all the media.
History really does repeat itself — watch.
The partial shutdown of the government by the Democrats is a disgrace.
The terrorist threat is the highest it’s been since 9/11, and we are defunding the department that is responsible for keeping the country safe.
The Issue: Mayor Mamdani slamming Israel and Operation Epic Fury during St. Patrick’s Day breakfast.
Mayor Mamdani’s St. Patrick’s Day rant against Israel underscores, as if it wasn’t already clear, his strident hatred of the Jewish state (“How much he hates Israel,” March 18).
It’s apparent that there’s nothing that he touches in his official capacity that fails to engender a vicious and calumnious attack on Israel.
So Mamdani couldn’t just enjoy St. Patrick’s Day without bringing up Iran and his hatred for Israel.
St. Patrick’s Day is a great day, not just for the Irish, but for everybody.
It’s a day to get out, enjoy yourself and watch the greatest parade, but our mayor put a damper on it.
He should’ve done us all a favor and boycotted the parade.
We would’ve been better off.
The mayor must be applauded for his consistency: He hates Israel all the time and at any place.
At the annual mayor’s breakfast before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Mamdani compared the past plight of the Irish to “genocide in Gaza.”
Instead of the usual praise of Irish-Americans, he had to kick Jews and Israel.
The man must bring his hatred into a day that brings everyone together to celebrate the Irish.
Does the mayor have no shame?
