Airport insanity amid Dems’ shutdown: Letters to the Editor — March 24, 2026
The Issue: Security lines elongate as Democrats refuse to fund Homeland Security, leaving TSA agents unpaid.
It’s deplorable that Democrats don’t support ICE removing illegal immigrants. It’s even worse they are holding the innocent public hostage in an attempt to negotiate the non-negotiable (“Airport wait and seethe,” March 21).
Americans have a right to travel. Kids who saved their money to enjoy spring break are being punished. People trying to celebrate distant events or, worse, trying to visit the sick or pay their respects to the dead, are in the sights of these misaligned bureaucrats.
The TSA agents who have kept working without being paid are patriots and deserve a 50% bonus on their back pay. Take the money from the Democrats’ salaries to cover the expense.

2 great ideas on how to deal with the Iran war consequences that Trump should consider
The other day, I saw two members of Congress being escorted through airport security, skipping the long lines we mere mortals must wait in.
If this perk were eliminated and they had to stand in line, perhaps the problem would be solved immediately.
I personally favor funding the Department of Homeland Security immediately, but The Post’s editorial (“Dems, end this shutdown insanity,” March 21) is blatantly misleading.
You blame the airport delays solely on Democrats, failing to mention that they have proposed funding of the TSA and other DHS agencies, while withholding and debating the funding for ICE. It is the Republicans who refuse to fund TSA immediately, unless ICE funding is included in the bill.
President Trump’s plan to deploy ICE agents to airports is misguided (“Prez: ICE to the res-queue,” March 23).
Alleviating congestion at TSA checkpoints takes the pressure off Democrats to fund DHS. It moves ICE agents off the streets and away from criminal aliens. Democrats will love this.
I’m planning a trip to attend a memorial in Florida and deeply resent the prospect of waiting many hours in security lines because Congress can’t get its act together.
There’s a simple solution to this problem the geniuses in Washington have failed to consider: an agreement requiring the Democrats to vote for TSA funding, and the Republicans to introduce a bill requiring extra training for ICE agents on de-escalating situations. Any sane person would support such a bill.
If you’re stressed while waiting in long airport security lines, remember Sen. Chuck Schumer and all members of Congress receive a TSA escort from the terminal entrance to their gate. When they pass you by, give them the Bronx cheer or more.
It is not okay for members of Congress to receive their paychecks on time when Homeland Security staffers work and remain unpaid.
If you are a Democrat representing New York in Congress, you’d better pay attention to the long lines in the airports and to the overall lack of security in the city.
Either earn your paychecks, Congress, or wait at the airport in long lines, go home and don’t return.
Schumer is more concerned about protecting illegal immigrants from being deported than keeping the American people safe with DHS funding.
Here is a question for Chuck and all his cronies: Are you being paid? Of course you are.
You’re more interested in yourself and your own agenda than in us people. It’s all a political game.
There are less TSA agents available due to government funding issues and President Trump intends to solve that by sending ICE agents to airports.
All I see of these agents is heavily armed, masked people, shooting American citizens, breaking into houses and even scaring a young boy whose father was taken away.
This is going too far. I, and probably millions of others, won’t be going to the United States in the near future, or until there is a change of government.
