Max Miller is the GOP’s Graham Platner — and Republicans must draw a line

Washington is the hardest city in the world in which to keep a secret, as Rep. Max Miller now knows all too well.

Rumors have reverberated on Capitol Hill for years that domestic violence allegations against the two-term Ohio Republican would soon explode.

Now they’ve hit the fan, in the ugliest imaginable way — and Republicans must choose between principles and party loyalties.

This past weekend, Miller and Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno, his former father-in-law, released dueling statements about alleged abuse during Miller’s marriage to the senator’s daughter.

They came two weeks after Mother Jones published a damning report based on 1,000 pages of court documents from the contentious divorce proceedings between Miller and Emily Moreno, his now ex-wife.

Miller has been accused of assaulting a romantic partner in the past: Stephanie Grisham, a White House press secretary during President Donald Trump’s first term, made accusations against Miller similar to those Moreno has lodged — and has now filed a restraining order against him.

Worse, Miller isn’t accused only of physical violence against grown women; the injuries Moreno described to police came up as part of a child-abuse investigation into their 2-year-old daughter’s broken collarbone.
