Pakistan’s federal government has imposed emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), suspending the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government and placing Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and several cabinet members in preventive custody.

President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal cabinet’s recommendation on Sunday, October 11, invoking Article 232 of the Constitution to declare an emergency and Article 234 to impose governor’s rule.
