Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice released three million new pages of the so-called “Epstein files.”

The files comprise documents amassed by U.S. law enforcement in the various criminal investigations against U.S. financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in a New York prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

They comprise thousands of Epstein’s personal emails, as well as invoices and receipts. In addition, any tip or allegation forwarded to the FBI about Epstein, no matter how outlandish, was similarly placed within the files. Many of the most explosive social media posts and headline generated from the release have come from the latter category. That would include headlines alleging that Epstein was a cannibal, which comes from an allegation made to the FBI that investigators subsequently dismissed.

But in addition to being a window into Epstein’s various crimes, the files are also an extremely comprehensive record of the elite power networks that Epstein traversed.

Epstein was one of the most politically connected men in the Western world and he regularly arranged meetings, financing and travel arrangements for everyone from billionaires to high-ranking politicians to foreign diplomats.

His correspondents included everyone from tech billionaire Bill Gates and former president Bill Clinton to former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak and Indian entrepreneur Anil Ambani.

Naturally, Canada (and Canadians) come in for the occasional mention in the files. Below, a cursory summary of some of the highlights.

There’s a whole bunch of random Canadiana in the files

If you ever sent an unsolicited email to Epstein – or were mentioned in one – you’re in the Epstein files.

As such, most of the Canadians mentioned in the Epstein files........
