Quebec City and Montreal have long had different political leanings. But this fall, voters in both cities appear to be showing a growing interest in Éric Duhaime’s Conservative Party of Quebec. At least, that’s what a new Léger poll conducted exclusively for The Gazette and the National Post among Quebec anglophone and allophone voters suggests.According to Léger, with 55 per cent of voting intentions, the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) isn’t as strong in this demographic as it usually is. The Quebec Conservatives, on the other hand, are gaining ground, with 20 per cent support.

Although current projections give the Conservatives up to 11 seats in the Quebec City area, including the city’s south shore, Duhaime’s party is still far from being in a position where it could hope to take seats away from the Liberals in the Montreal area. But as English-speaking voters appear to be increasingly looking for an alternative to the QLP, that could change in the coming weeks.The Liberals’ recent hesitations on the language issue, past scandals........
