Delta Could Have Had the World’s Best Wi-Fi. It Chose Something Else Instead

The airline’s Amazon partnership makes sense on a balance sheet. It makes considerably less sense for the passengers.

In the first quarter of 2026, United Airlines passengers were seven million connections into something that was starting to feel routine. Across 344 Starlink-equipped aircraft, the network had handled 167,000 flights and connected 3.7 million devices. People worked, streamed, and a few, perhaps, may have even forgotten they were inside a metal tube at 35,000 feet. The connection was fast enough that forgetting came easily.
