Move Over, Anthropic: Google Signs Deal to Supply Pentagon With Gemini AI for Classified Work 

Anthropic and the Department of Defense had a blow-up over military use of AI. Now Google has stepped into the fray.

Google has signed a deal with the United States Department of Defense to provide access to its Gemini AI-powered tools for use in classified activities. The deal comes following vocal opposition from hundreds of Google employees. 

According to a report from The Information, the agreement will allow the Pentagon to use Gemini for “any lawful government purpose.” This phrase was what led to Anthropic’s blow-up with the Trump administration, as the Dario Amodei-led company said that those terms were too generic and could allow the government to use their AI models to power deadly autonomous weapons and to enable mass surveillance of........
