How Much Is Squatty Potty Worth? Founder’s Disturbing Arrest Shines Spotlight on ‘Shark Tank’ Product

Robert Edwards pleaded not guilty to federal charges of receipt of child sexual abuse material.

The multimillionaire inventor of Squatty Potty was arrested February 12 for receiving child sex abuse materials, according to the New York Post. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Utah said February 23 that Robert Edwards, 50, reportedly purchased and received countless materials from March 2021 to November 2025.

Edwards cofounded Squatty Potty, a footstool to be used while on the toilet, with his mother in 2011 to help ease her struggle with constipation. The two appeared on Shark Tank three years later, where they successfully closed a deal with investor Lori Greiner.

Three months after their on-air appearance, the Edwards family had brought in $12.3 million in sales. They sold the product to Aterian, Inc. for $32.1 million in 2021.

“Now everyone is like, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?” Edwards said in a 2018 interview for CNBC. “I have proven a lot of people wrong, and it’s felt really good.”

In a public statement, Squatty Potty owner Aterian clarified that Edward no longer has a financial interest in the company.

“Aterian has no affiliation, partnership, or ongoing relationship with Mr. Robert Edwards. Edwards was part of a group, including private equity firms, that sold specific assets to Aterian in a one-time transaction in 2021,” the statement began.

“Following the completion of that acquisition, all associations with Edwards and his family ceased. He is not an employee, a partner, or a stakeholder in our company.  Any claims to the contrary are categorically false.
