Why a new whisky was enough to tempt me onto the West Highland Way

There are very few circumstances under which I would agree to any sort of trek in the great outdoors. 

I abhor clunky walking boots that always seem to blister no matter how thick your socks are, the rustle that oversized waterproof gear makes with each stride, and the thought of creepy crawlies lurking in long grass just waiting for their chance to latch onto your trouser leg. 

But sweeten the deal with the promise of sampling an exclusive new limited-edition whisky and, well, that might just do the trick. 

Things are off to a soggy start at Glengoyne, where we’ve gathered under a glamping-style gazebo for a quick coffee to fuel our mini adventure marking the launch of the Scottish Oak 17-Year-Old single malt.

Even without the invite, this is a distillery I’ve long wanted to tick off my list, even more so after learning it had bagged a tourism award based on ratings from US visitors this spring.
