Trump is right for once, it is time to drill, baby drill in the North Sea Maybe the recent prolonged warm spell has addled my brain, but recently I found myself rather worryingly, agreeing with something that Donald Trump said.
Maybe the recent prolonged warm spell has addled my brain, but last week I found myself rather worryingly, agreeing with something that Donald Trump said.
Hopefully it's just a fleeting aberration or else I may have to have a serious word with myself or spend a day with the Scottish Greens to get me back on track to sensibility again.
The US President has called on the UK to continue drilling for oil in the North Sea and keep Aberdeen as ‘the hub’.
He says that drilling needs to incentivised by the UK government and posted on his Truth Social platform that things need to change to help bring down energy costs.
Mr Trump has been vocal about the North Sea oil industry in the past and now wants to see Scotland and the rest of the UK stop building ‘unsightly’ windfarms and focus on oil instead.
He insists there is still at least 100 years of drilling left for companies and it will help Aberdeen and the rest of the country.
Of course, a cynic might say that the Donald is only saying that because he has a large golf resort just north of the Granite City and he needs more wealthy individuals in the North-east to afford the green fees.
The Menie Links complex will shortly open a second 18 hole course with the promotional guff claiming it will be 'The Greatest 36 holes in golf' in the usual understated manner of the President.
They can't just be excellent or merely very good courses, only 'The Greatest' will do for our Donald.
Of course The Greatest 36 holes in the world come with the astronomical green fees you might expect, with the daily proceeds from the nearby Forties oil pipeline probably still not enough for a two-ball.
