HAVANA TIMES – In the faded streets and homes worn down by the pressures of everyday life, there is a heavy atmosphere—a mixture of caution and stubborn silence. The announcement of a new round of talks on August 1st has reopened the national debate. It is not the country’s first attempt at reaching an agreement in recent memory. However, the current circumstances demand a different tone, one marked by social urgency, deep wounds, and tangible demands.

Ordinary citizens watch the political chessboard with the weariness of people who have seen too many promises come and go. For years, there has been a historic disconnect between politics and the realities on the ground, with political dynamics unfolding on a path parallel to the suffering of the people. While leaders measured their strength in negotiating rooms, ordinary Venezuelans struggled daily to survive amid power outages and shortages. It has often been pointed out that politics loses its meaning when it forgets the feelings and needs of local communities.

This structural divide has generated profound skepticism throughout the nation. That is why the announcement of a new roadmap must move beyond hollow rhetoric lacking substance. For the average Venezuelan, empty words lost their value long ago.
