The Summit of Seven

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to leave for France and the Slovak Republic on June 13. This will be his second visit to Europe in less than a month. He was in Europe in May to visit Sweden, Norway and Italy. In Norway he also participated in the Indo-Nordic summit. On this occasion he will be paying bilateral visits to France and Slovakia but will also attend the G7 summit. As the Ministry of External Affairs press release announcing this visit by Modi to Europe notes: “Prime Minister will participate in the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on 16 - 17 June 2026. During the Summit, he will exchange views with G7 leaders, and those from invited partner countries and International Organizations, participating in the summit sessions on - Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity; Reviving Balanced, Shared and Sustainable Economic Growth for all; and Ensuring a Safe, Rapid and Efficient Rollout of AI. On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders”.

The G7 consists of some of the world’s most advanced countries and economies. Till the rise of China it was this group, which had its first summit level meeting in the mid-ninety seventies, that set the rules of economic and commercial engagement for the non-socialist world.
