POSITIVE VIBES: The positivity of having pets despite how much it hurts to lose them

I’m writing this on a day when good friends have had to put down their dog of nearly eight years after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Please excuse me if I mentally meander a bit.

Chibby, or Chibs (as our son called him), grew up with our pup, Daisy. They played together, argued together, and walked together a lot. Daisy would always jump to attention when she heard Chibby’s name or when she heard Chib’s parents’ names, or voices, or their car. When we go for a walk, Daisy always wants to walk to Chibs’ house. Heck, my wife and I walked Chibs down the aisle at his parents’ wedding.

We loved the little guy. This loss really hits home. But Chibby was in a lot of pain the last few months and he’s not suffering any longer, which is better for him, no matter how much it hurts us.

When we get a pet, we know we’re going to grow attached to that pet and most likely........
