DENIM SPIRIT: Unable to see the light
So much light, I can’t see. Or, so much light I can’t see. (I admit, this is a strange column. But come along with me for the ride.)
So the difference? Like that strange Manfred Mann’s Earth Band cover of Bruce Springsteen’s song “Blinded by the Light,” the first one references a brilliance so intense we have to shut our eyes. The second is about when light drenches every blessed thing all around us, and it’s impossible to behold it all. When the sun is high in the sky behind us, cascading over the landscape and washing everything it touches, shadows silently point to the light’s presence. But we don’t actually see the light, not in its entirety or even particularity. We see the things it illuminates but remain unconscious of all the light we are not seeing.
