Opinion: Ontario budget cut the wrong business tax rate
Ontario needs lower taxes on business but cutting the small-business tax rate and not the general rate discourages small firms from growing

As part of its 2026 budget and the first step in its multi-year “Tax Action Plan” to improve Ontario’s tax system, the Ford government will cut the small-business tax rate from 3.2 per cent to 2.2 per cent. The government is right to target business taxes, but it is cutting the wrong rate.
