Vietnam’s 102 million people celebrated their 81st anniversary of their country’s independence on Sept. 2 with festivities, happiness and proud throughout the country.

In the morning of Sept. 2, the national flag was hoisted to the top of the 29-metre-high flagpole amid a solemn atmosphere at the historic Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi. 

The flag was first raised over Ba Dinh Square on Sept. 2, 1945, when Vietnam’s greatest leader Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence before millions of Vietnamese people, proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Immediately after independence, alongside the fight against hunger and illiteracy, President Ho Chi Minh placed particular emphasis on practicing democracy, building and consolidating national unity, and mobilising the people’s aggregate strength for national development and defence.

Even after the 81 years,the current leadership of Vietnam is trying to build a country that is strong and prosperous.
