Nigeria, Venezuela, Syria, Greenland, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Canada, and even Russia. President Donald Trump has attacked or threatened to attack all these places, either militarily or economically. (If his attacks on international trade with the threat or imposition of tariffs are included, add scores of other nations.) Some of the reasons given for the attacks or threats do not pass the laugh test. And the governments of Nigeria, Venezuela, and Syria have cleverly cooperated (or pretended to) with his demands.
In Nigeria, ostensibly to protect Christians, Trump attacked Islamist groups rebelling against the Nigerian government. The problem was that most of the deaths caused by these groups fell on their fellow Muslims, and the U.S. attacks came in a part of the country where most of the killing of Christians was not occurring. The Nigerian government adroitly redirected U.S. power to higher priority internal foes.
In Venezuela, members of the socialist regime clearly negotiated with Trump before he snatched President Nicolas Maduro and likely even sold out their own leader to save themselves and their regime. The regime, still in control, chose to survive by........
