He is. The BBC voted him one of the 100 greatest Britons in history. He has received prestigious awards from the British Academy of Songwriters. His band Culture Club won a Grammy for best new artist in 1984. He has sold more than 50 million records worldwide — many of them certified platinum, meaning at least a million were purchased.

His music spans multiple genres — rock, reggae, disco, new wave, soul, EDM — but there can be little debate: Boy George, née George Alan O’Dowd born in London in 1961, is a bona fide star. A critic at the left-leaning Guardian, no less, once said Boy George is “funny and generous and engaging.” He is.

Lately, however, The Guardian has been less kind. A few days ago, the newspaper took note of Boy George again, and wrote disapprovingly about the singer’s support for Jews and the Jewish state in his new song, We Will Dance Again. “Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,” wrote The Guardian, uncritically accepting the claims of Hamas, a terror group in Britain and elsewhere.
