Town council's priorities revealed as tax increases by 20pc
Bungay Town Council has released its budget for 2026 to 2027, which it says "prioritises investment in essential services, public spaces, youth opportunities and the preservation of Bungay's rich heritage".
It says it is ensure the town continues to "thrive as a vibrant and inclusive place to live, work and visit".
The council will see a 19.64pc rise in its share of council tax precept over the next year for a Band D equivalent household, a £26.45 increase to £161.12.

In a statement the council emphasised that strengthening community support services is a key focus, as well as ambitious plans for youth provision as supported by a Police Commissioner's grant.
The five main areas the budget focuses on are community development and support, public spaces and recreation, youth provisions, heritage and cultural preservation, and efficient council operations.
The council is also looking to build upon its community support initiatives and expand partnerships, including support for Citizens Advice, the Bungay Folk Festival and the food bank.

In the budget, £5,000 is allocated for Bungay Community Support while £3,000 has been allocated for playground inspections and general maintenance.
Following positive feedback from locals the council said it "is committed to upgrading playparks and maintaining high quality green spaces throughout the town" and highlighted the recent improvements at the Kings Road Playpark.
A total of £30,000 has also been earmarked for town events, including the annual Bungay Christmas Light Switch-On.

Bungay Town Council said: "This year we can support people, communities and the town and can continue to make Bungay a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
"Bungay Town Council's 2026-2027 budget demonstrates a clear and forward-looking commitment to investing in the town's people, places and future."
