Melting A-road will be shut for longer as heatwave stalls repairs

Resurfacing works on the A143 at Stanton, which has been closed since July 7, have been delayed due to high temperatures and deteriorating road conditions.

Councillor Christopher Hudson, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for transport and highways, said: "We fully recognise the disruption this closure is causing, both for people who use the A143 and for local communities experiencing additional traffic on surrounding roads.

"We know residents will be disappointed that the repair has been delayed, but it is important that we carry out the work safely and effectively.

"The repairs planned for next week are intended to address the areas of carriageway that have deteriorated most significantly and allow us to reopen the road safely.
