Linda Watkinson was awarded the prestigious Laurel Award on March 8, International Women’s Day, during a surprise celebration.

The award recognises exceptional service that has made a lasting impact across the county.

The district commissioner said: "I'm so delighted that Linda has been awarded the Laurel Award.

"She has inspired girls and fellow leaders alike, creating so many guiding memories and experiences."

The surprise event gathered friends, family and fellow volunteers, who decorated the venue with flowers and hosted a buffet and quiz in Ms Watkinson’s honour.

The award was presented by Pat Pinnington, president of Girlguiding Norfolk.

One leader from Snettisham said: "The room was full of living proof of Linda’s impact.

"I was personally so pleased to be there to witness it. I was one of Linda's original guides back in 1992, and she eventually inspired me to become a leader myself."
