Shannon Galligan, 28, assaulted her former partner at her home in Norwich, leaving him with fractured vertebrae and multiple bruises after he was forced to flee through the opening.

The man had been in a long-term relationship with Galligan for several years, although the two had split prior to the attacks at the defendant's YMCA property in Barnards Yard, off Colegate.

Norwich Crown Court heard the victim had gone to Galligan's address in December 2024 soon after their break-up, and she had become "angry" for reasons which were not alluded to in court.

Marc Brown, prosecuting, said Galligan picked up a saucepan and hit the victim with it "on the back of the head".

Galligan, now 28, then took a knife and "shoved it into the back of the door" before she grabbed the victim by the throat.
