Mark Thouless had been in a relationship with the woman for about three years prior to the attack at an address in Vale Green, Norwich.

Norwich Crown Court heard the woman had gone to a friends' house to get cigarette papers for the 51-year-old as he was too drunk.

John Morgans, prosecuting, said the woman was also offered cocaine but declined as she "didn't do drugs".

But when she returned to Thouless "rather than being grateful" she got the cigarette papers, he was angry she didn't "bring any cocaine".

The woman was concerned about his behaviour and went home, locking the door.

Thouless turned up "banging on the door" and demanding to be let in.
