It follows an application that was put forward for the development at Shipdham, near Dereham by Falcon Tower Crane Services Ltd.

The proposals also involve the conversion of up to 16 acres of land from agricultural to industrial and general storage use.

The company has been operating from the Shipdham Airfield site for more than 30 years.

It currently does painting work within an aircraft hangar that was built during the Second World War.

However, it has been described as "increasingly unfit for purpose" due to a "continued deterioration of the structure", as well as the limited space for painting operations.

In a planning statement, it was said that the change of use and new shop would allow the business to operate with "increased efficiency".

The existing paint shop within the industrial estate will continue to be used for external works, while the proposed building will be dedicated primarily to equipment owned by the business.

The development is expected to support the creation of 15 new jobs in the village.

A design and access statement from the business said: "The development will replace outdated facilities currently housed in a World War II aircraft hangar, providing modern accommodation for shot blasting and spray painting operations.

"The scale, layout, and appearance of the building are driven by operational requirements, with careful design to minimise visual impact and ensure safe site operation.

"The proposal relates well to the existing industrial uses, will not adversely affect traffic movements, and has been carefully designed to minimise visual and environmental impact".

A decision on the application is due to be made by Breckland Council at a later date.

The plans can be viewed in full on the council's planning portal, using the reference: PL/2026/0246/FMAJ.
