Major revamp bid for gospel hall is lodged
A major internal refurbishment is earmarked for the place of worship at 211 Long Road in Lowestoft.
The Gospel Hall, listed as being run by the Oulton Gospel Hall Trust, is proposing a number of changes to the existing building with the plans 'awaiting decision' with East Suffolk Council.
Plans lodged by agents Deborah Prince for the applicant Mrs Katie Griffin were validated with the council earlier this month.
It states: "The proposal involves a major internal refurbishment and modest external works to improve functionality and compliance."
With the existing single-storey building in Oulton Broad used as a place of worship, it includes a 40-space car park with the surrounding area predominantly residential.
Documents said: "Key changes include reconfiguration of foyer to create a classroom and multi-purpose room; replacement of HVAC system; replacement of an existing steel entrance and fire exit doors with high-performance aluminium white powder-coated glazed doors, designed to enhance thermal efficiency and maximize natural light within the building; replacement of rear steel plant doors with new high-performance aluminium powder-coated white doors and four new roof tile vents."
The proposals include replacing five existing condenser units, which are over 20 years old, with four modern units.
Documents added: "This represents a reduction in the number of units and an upgrade in performance.
"The new equipment is expected to operate more quietly and efficiently than the ageing units.
"The internal layout has been designed to improve circulation and create flexible spaces for meetings and educational use.
"The proposed changes will significantly enhance the building’s functionality, comfort while respecting its existing character and context."
It concluded: "Improvements such as energy-efficient HVAC systems, reduced noise emissions, upgraded doors for better thermal performance and natural light, and internal reconfiguration for accessibility demonstrate a thoughtful approach to modernising the facility.
"These works will ensure the building continues to serve its purpose effectively."
East Suffolk Council is likely to make a decision in the coming weeks.
