An unannounced visit by HM Inspectorate of Prisons to HMP Bure found limited staff oversight on some wings, compounded by gaps in CCTV coverage and inaccuracies in roll checks.

The recently published report highlighted concerns that inmates at the prison - based on the former RAF Coltishall site near Badersfield - were not being supervised properly as a result.

Inspectors who visited the site between June 8 and 18 this year said: “Supervision levels on some of the wings were not good enough because some officers were congregating in offices.
