Cromer could be set to expand as plans to develop farmland on its outskirts into 550 houses have been lodged with North Norfolk District Council.

The land west of Pine Tree Farm, on the south end of the seaside resort towards Felbrigg and Roughton, has been earmarked for the project which includes 192 affordable homes.

There will also be a 100-bed elderly care facility.

The application has been made by Corylus Planning and Environmental Ltd and is currently an outline of the plans with access details.

North Norfolk District Council leader Tim Adams said: "It is the most significant planning application we have seen in anyone's lifetime in Cromer.

"It will be a shock to see that level of development for some people.........
