Revealed - The reason behind the surge in potholes in Norfolk
The AA reported that pothole-related calls in January were up by 18pc across the UK and its mechanics attended 6,235 incidents in the East of England alone.
And Norfolk County Council figures show its contractors have repaired 6,515 potholes since April last year.

This month has seen more repairs than any other, with 1,033 made so far.
In January, contractors repaired 834 potholes and in December, they fixed 594.
One driver had to pay more than £200 to repair his tyre this month after driving along Crownthorpe Road, heading from Wymondham towards Dereham.
"This 400 yards of road has more holes than Swiss cheese," he said.
One pothole in Mill Street in Swanton Morley had been plaguing motorists for weeks at the start of the year.

Liliana Silva, who lives in the area, said at the time it was "worsening daily".
The council has now fixed it.
When asked about the reason behind the rise in potholes, a spokeswoman for Norfolk County Council said: "Winter conditions have a major impact on the condition of the road network and the combination of heavy rainfall followed by freezing presents a challenge to local councils across the country.
"Typically, the amount of potholes we repair increases in January to March following poor weather."
The seasonal increase in potholes is caused by a cycle of roads freezing and thawing.

Water seeps into small cracks in the road surface, and when temperatures drop below zero, the water freezes and expands, widening the cracks.
As temperatures rise, the ice melts, leaving voids and reduced support beneath the surface.
The weight of traffic eventually causes the surface to break, forming a pothole.
