But visitors are now able to take guided tours of Burnham Thorpe, a service more commonly offered to tourists sightseeing in major cities.

The walking tours are of course inspired by the village's - and Norfolk's - most famous son, Lord Nelson.

But the focus is very much on the village, not the man.

Holly Smith, 52, who has lived in Burnham Thorpe all her life, started the Nelson Village Tours in April.

Since then, she has led around 25 tours with visitors from coming from as far as Germany.

"People come for Nelson history," she said. "But I am not a Nelson expert. I am a village expert

"A lot of what we go through on the tour is really about how Nelson reacted and had a relationship with the village.

"It is about the context of the man and what he did when he lived here."
