Children at closing pre-school could move to RAF base nursery investigated by Ofsted

Marham Village Pre-School, which has been based in an annex on the grounds of Cherry Tree Junior School for the past 10 years, will close its doors in July.

The junior school, run by the Cherry Tree Academy Trust, is full and needs to build new classrooms before the start of the September term to welcome new pupils.

Fears have been raised about whether or not all the children who will be displaced by the closure will be able to continue their education in the local area.

One nursery that children could be transferred to is the Rainbow Centre at RAF Marham.

It was the subject of an Ofsted probe, which saw its registration suspended as investigations took place throughout December and January.

Reports revealed staff failed to understand the requirements of their jobs - such as how to keep children safe - and that there may have been "unsuitable" people granted access to children.

However, these concerns were addressed, and the suspension was lifted on January 23.

A spokeswoman for RAF Marham previously said: "We can confirm that all the actions required by Ofsted to reopen the Rainbow Centre have been completed satisfactorily."

Exact details of the safeguarding issues that led to the nursery being hit with the sanction remain unclear.

The Rainbow Centre is one of multiple relocation options and parents will be able to "choose where to send their children and apply in the normal way".

Norfolk County Council previously stressed that it believes "there are sufficient places in the area for children living locally".

A council spokeswoman said: "Our role is to support families to find alternative childcare via our Family Information Service on 03448008020.

"There are places available at the Rainbow Centre, but parents can choose where to send their children and apply in the usual way."
