Under proposals put forward by Andy Burnham, who become prime minister last month, the government will close planning loopholes that enable unwanted vape and betting shops to go-ahead.

The police and councils will also get tougher powers to shut down for longer businesses linked to organise crime.

And people in Norwich welcome the plans, saying it is time to crackdown on the number of vape and betting shops opening in the city.

'There's too many of them'

There are currently more than 10 vape shops in the city centre, with at least five betting shops as well.

Mark Wright, who runs Vintage Taxi Clothing on the market said: "I think firstly, the issue with the vape shops is that the kids are vaping now.

"Secondly, betting shops and vaping shops bring the high street down and it's difficult to regulate. If you do start a small business, you don't want to be sandwiched between a vape shop and a betting shop.

"But on the other hand, beggars can't be choosers. If you have an empty high street, that's the city centre finished."

David Chan, 60 who lives in Wymondham, said: "There should be more regulation. This should give the public more knowledge about what's going on in our high........
