Peter Black, who developed the Eye Department at James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, died peacefully on July 3 after a long illness.

Mr Black, who dedicated his career to improving eye care services, played a central role in building what is now considered one of the best eye departments in the region.

His work also included setting up the Diabetic Retinal Screening Service in 1987.
