Former off-licence can become restaurant in part of town with 'too many takeaways'

West Norfolk Council has agreed changing the use of the property on Gaywood Road, in King's Lynn, would be "lawful development", meaning it would not require planning permission.

A planning officer's report said selling food and drink "mostly for consumption on the premises" fell in the same use class as the previous shop.

One local objected, saying: "This will just be a takeaway, just as the previous application, putting in chairs and tables does not turn this into a restaurant. Gaywood does not need any more takeaways."

Plans to turn the shop into a takeaway were turned down in January.

The council's decision notice said: "The site, which is not located within a designated town centre, is located within walking distance of a secondary school in an area where there is already a concentration of takeaways and where health deprivation is high."
