Essex business wins Game Changer of the Year award
Dura Composites is a designer, manufacturer and supplier of advanced composite solutions for the transport, infrastructure, industrial and marine sectors.
The company is aiming to deliver the world’s lowest-carbon walkway systems, using materials that improve safety, reduce embodied carbon and extend infrastructure life.
Five years ago, Dura Composites took a strategic decision to redesign its products, processes and partnerships to accelerate sustainable outcomes.
As well as reducing embodied carbon by up to 33% across its core glass reinforced polymer (GRP) products, it also launched the UK’s first mechanical GRP separation system.
Operationally, the business has adopted pallet-free logistics, biodegradable packaging, smart lighting and electric vehicles to reduce emissions.
The judges praised the firm for its “multi-faceted, innovative and brilliant way of showing true full circle use of materials”.
James Sparks from Dura Composites said: “It’s phenomenal to win this award, and a bit of a shock! It’s been a whole company effort to win this.”
Stuart Burns, also from the firm, added: “Winning this award is a real moment of pride for everyone at Dura Composites. It reflects over five years of dedicated work by an exceptional team to take what started as an idea – that GRP composites could be recycled – and turn it into a practical, scalable solution with genuine national impact.”
