Norwich Airport strikes could have lasting impact on region's economy, experts warn

The pay dispute involving air traffic controllers remains unresolved, forcing the airport to close for a full 24 hours in August and on several days this month.

But it is not only holidaymakers who have been affected by the industrial action.

The offshore energy sector, which the airport has supported for several decades, has seen its supply chains disrupted, while businesses that rely on the regional airport to travel within the UK and worldwide have also been impacted.

But the real fear among aviation experts and business leaders relates to Norwich Airport's reputation.

If passengers and businesses do not trust the airport's reliability, why would they risk flying from Norwich?

The beauty of Norwich Airport has always been its convenience.

If the strikes continue - and cancellations and delays become more frequent - passengers will choose to fly from elsewhere. Stansted is only a 90-minute drive from Norwich.
