After last night Torquay United have eight games to go – and whatever the outcome of the game against Salisbury – the chase for second and third could go down to the wire for the Gulls. But is it time to take the pressure off and discount Torquay as automatic promotion candidates?
Worthing’s 2-1 away win at Aveley on Monday – before Tuesday’s round of games – gave them a real buffer from the other teams below them, and they have a game in hand until April 25, too. I am not saying Torquay can’t catch them – of course they can, the maths add up – but it would take a run of bad results for Worthing to give up the title to anyone right now.
