Doorstep Postings: A columnist’s paradoxical Yves Engler endorsement

I’m going to do the Canadian political establishment and the Jewish community an enormous favour and torpedo Yves Engler’s bid for the leadership of the NDP before it even gets started. I will do this by offering him my wholehearted endorsement.

Serial activists who make hating Israel their entire identity are a dime a dozen these days. Yves Engler stands out even in that field: He’s been suspended by Concordia University for organizing a riot against Benjamin Netanyahu in 2002. He has filmed himself confronting anyone he deems to be insufficiently anti-Israel. Keffiyeh-wearing MP’s like Edmonton-Strathcona’s Heather McPherson get off lucky with denunciatory tweets. He’s even gone to jail because he just would not stop attacking pro-Israel online folks. Most importantly, Engler consistently advocates for punishing the organized Jewish community for Israel’s actions, since according to him, they
