Cap Black': An Outreach Retrospective.

Two things I resolved to do in 2008 when I created my 'Cap Black' umbrella name covering various advocacy was: 'create safety' (advocate and consult with stakeholders) and 'share supply' (offer food and other support when possible).

The former is easier than the latter due to resource acquisition problems.

As a 'recovering grouch', I promise you this isn't 'Pollyanna' wishing upon a star. It's pragmatic

My 'Cap Black' outreach began in the housing bubble bursting crisis during the George W. Bush administration. Beginning in my hometown, it came with me after moving. I led or participated in marches as a parade marshal and was volunteer security coordinator for the local 'Occupy New York' branch in its last weeks. Its camp across from city hall was shut down by the 'limo liberal' mayor at that time working with federal agencies. Sadly, most homeless Black men in its ranks are still unhoused and unemployed to this day. So-called 'progress' overlooks us.

It was during this bleak time that I first saw widespread homelessness. And also saw a need to do something about it. I'm not a........
