The notion that human life has any special value is a concept alien to most of human history and thought. It exists only in the west, and only after centuries of a synthesis between enlightenment values and Judeo-Christian values. Colleges, a world where postmodernism reigns, teach “a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.” Israel’s tragedy is that it had been faced since before independence with enemies who do not put any value on the lives of their own children, let alone the lives of Jewish children.

When old furniture becomes inconvenient to have, we break it to pieces and throw it out. There is no moral qualm to doing that. But that's the........
