The Argentine Davis Cup team beat its Turkish counterpart over the weekend to secure a spot in the competition’s 2027 Finals Qualifiers.

Wins by singles players Francisco Cerúndolo (who played the first and last matches) and Thiago Tirante at the Ruca Che Stadium in Neuquén province earned the Halcones — as the team is affectionately known — a 3-1 victory, while the doubles match went to the Turkish team.

Cerúndolo wrapped up the series with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mert Alkaya in the first of Sunday’s singles matches, which are only played if required to settle the series.

The team now has to wait until November, when the draw for the first round of the 2027 Finals Qualifiers will take place. The possible rivals are Chile, Croatia, South Korea, Hungary, Brazil, India, Ecuador, Norway, Slovakia, Peru, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Serbia and Monaco.

Argentina would have to play away if it draws against any of the last four.

The victory sends the country to the 2027 Finals Qualifiers, the first stage to reach the year end, winner-takes-all tournament, and guarantees another year away from World Group I, where teams duel with........
