Roni’s Remedy: Bottoms up, my precious, and try socializing By Veronic
My husband has been drinking more since he lost his job. He has been unemployed for a few months, and I am the only one working. He says he applies every day for jobs, but I see him sit on the couch, drink and watch TV. I’m scared to bring it up because I don’t want him to feel judged. How do I support him without enabling him? – Holding It All Together
Holding It All Together – Not speaking up about the reality of the situation is enabling him. He is obviously going through a sort of depression. It’s hard for a man to lose their income and not be able to help support the family. But there is no time for self-pity mixed with booze because it’s a tragic combo. Have a chat with him when he is sober and clear-headed. Tell him you love him and that you’re worried about his alcohol intake. Say you have noticed a rise in his drinking since losing his job and ask how you can help him get through this rough transition. I really hope he listens, cleans up, possibly hits a 12-step meeting if necessary and becomes a productive part of society........
