Guest Column: Setting the record straight on biosolids in Yuma

20.07.2026

Yuma is home. I grew up here. I went to Rolle and graduated from Kofa. My father was a pediatrician here for over 25 years. I’ve always been proud to say I’m from Yuma and I care deeply about Yuma and the people who continue to call it home – including lifelong friends and members of my family.

Yuma has always been a place where people look out for one another and stick up for the truth. That’s why I want to clear up some lies being told about the use of biosolids at AgTech and the impact this misinformation is having on a local family-owned farm and its employees that have been a part of this area for more than 40 years.

Why should anyone listen to me? In addition to my Yuma roots, I have dedicated nearly my entire public service career to protecting public health and the environment. I have been an environmental attorney for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) where I worked for nearly 20 years, and most recently I served as No. 2 in charge........
