The 15 Wordiest TV Shows Ranked, From ‘Always Sunny’ to ‘Mad Men’

A subtitle analysis found the FX sitcom packs in more words per minute than every other show on television.

According to a 2022 study conducted by WordFinderX.com, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the most difficult TV show to understand—when taking subtitles and words per minute (wpm) into consideration. That makes the long-running FX series the wordiest television comedy—a genre that also happens to be the wordiest.

After analyzing subtitles from Always Sunny’s most recent season (at the time), the show clocked in at 176.2 wpm. To put that into perspective, the National Disability Authority (or NDA) suggests that English subtitles be kept to a maximum of 140 wpm.
