New polling demonstrates that 9 in 10 Americans say extreme heat has impacted some aspect of their lives over the past year.

The AP/NORC poll, conducted from July 23-27, surveyed Americans on how extreme heat has affected them personally. Respondents were asked to disclose whether heat has impacted various aspects of their lives — including whether it has changed their plans or affected their spending habits.

Fifty percent of respondents said that extreme heat has had either a major or minor impact on their sleeping patterns, while only 44 percent said it has had no impact on their sleep. Fifty-two percent of respondents said extreme heat has impacted their travel or vacation plans, while again, 44 percent said it hasn’t.

According to the survey, two-thirds of Americans, 68 percent, said that their family’s outdoor activities have been impacted by extreme heat, while only 31 percent said their outdoor activities have not been impacted. Meanwhile, 81 percent said extreme heat over the past year has affected their electricity bills, while only 15 percent said they haven’t noticed a difference.
